Wesley Memorial Methodist Church has a long-standing tradition of investing in the lives of young people through scouting. We have proudly sponsored Boy Scouts Troop 4 since 1920 and Girl Scouts Troop 13211 since 2017. Since then, our scouting ministry has grown to include Cub Scouts and Sea Scouts, creating even more opportunities for children and youth to learn, serve, lead, and grow together.

Scouting is about more than learning practical skills and earning badges. These organizations help young people develop strong morals, character, responsibility, leadership, and a spirit of service. Just as importantly, our scouting programs open the doors of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church to families throughout our community—including those who may not have a home church. Because we have the autonomy to shape our programs, we intentionally keep God at the forefront of what we do. We strive to honor Him through the service we give, the accomplishments we achieve, the character we build, and the friendships we form. Through scouting, we have the privilege of creating a place where young people can discover their gifts and serve others.

The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Troop 4

Meets: Mondays @ 7 pm in Boy Scout Room I (1st Floor)

Demographic: Boys ages 11-17

In 2026, Boy Scouts of America celebrated its 116th anniversary. For 105 of those years, Wesley Memorial has sponsored Troop 4. On December 4, 1920, the local high school principal called a meeting to organize Boy Scout troops in High Point. The fourth troop organized that night was assigned to Wesley Memorial. Walter Hargett and William Hall agreed to serve as Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster. Troop 4 was off and running.

In 1927, Troop 4 awarded its first Eagle Scout badge to Peyton Moffitt. By 1930, ten Troop 4 scouts had earned their Eagle Scout badge, more than any other troop in the southeast at that time. Troop 4 now has 282 Eagle Scouts.

The fun of Boy Scouting is in the adventure of the great outdoors. Nearly every month over the last 105 years, the Scouts of Troop 4 have headed to the outdoors for camping, hiking, rafting, backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing and many other activities. Troop 4 Scouts have camped near and far, from our own backyards in High Point to World Jamborees in Holland and Greece. Scouts have backpacked along the Appalachian Trail in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and the Sangra de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains in New Mexico. Scouts have fished in the Atlantic Ocean and have canoed most of the rivers in North Carolina.

Pack 4

Demographic: Boys and Girls grades K-5th

We’re all about encouraging boys and girls to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge.

Meets:

Demographic: Boys and Girls ages 14-20

Sea Scout units– called ships- are established all across the country on oceans, bays, rivers, and lakes. They provide limitless opportunities and exciting challenges that you won’t find anywhere else. Sea Scouts is a place to grow and learn, find adventure, and build long lasting friendships. For over 100 years Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.

Adventure

What makes Sea Scouts so unique is getting out on the water. Sea Scout ships use a variety of boats from paddle craft, small outboard motor boats to large sailing yachts and vessels.

Advancement & Awards

Sea Scouts are recognized and rewarded for the things they learn and do. You can earn valuable certifications in SCUBA, boating safety, lifesaving, and CPR

Training

Sea Scouts receive training in seamanship and leadership. From ship meetings, long cruises, a USCG sponsored Safety at Sea, you will be learning every step of the way whether you realize it or not.

Scout Led Program

You and your shipmates lead your Sea Scout program, so you make it what you want. In Sea Scouts, you build your own adventure!

Troop 13211

Meets: Sundays @ 2 pm

Demographic: Girls ages 5-18

Daisies: Kindergarten to 1st grade (approx. ages 5–7)

Brownies: 2nd to 3rd grade (approx. ages 7–9)

Juniors: 4th to 5th grade (approx. ages 9–11)

Cadettes: 6th to 8th grade (approx. ages 11–14)

Seniors: 9th to 10th grade (approx. ages 14–16)

Ambassadors: 11th to 12th grade (approx. ages 16–18)

Girl Scout Troop 13211 is a vibrant, multi-level troop rooted in faith, service, and leadership. Girl Scouting empowers girls to discover who they are, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. Through hands-on learning, community service, outdoor adventure, and entrepreneurship, girls build confidence, compassion, resilience, and lifelong skills that prepare them to lead in their schools, communities, and beyond.

Our troop was founded at Wesley Memorial in 2017 with just five Daisies. Since then, Troop 13211 has grown into a thriving multi-level troop serving girls from kindergarten through 10th grade. Next fall marks an exciting milestone as we become our first full-spectrum troop serving every level from Daisies through Ambassadors. We meet every other Sunday from 2:00–3:30 PM, creating a consistent space for friendship, growth, and meaningful experiences.

Service is at the heart of Troop 13211. Our girls actively serve the community through projects supporting local animal shelters, women’s shelters, and homeless populations in Thomasville, High Point, and Greensboro. They also bring joy through cheerful visits to nursing homes and work to raise awareness and appreciation for veterans. These experiences help girls live out the Girl Scout Law by practicing kindness, responsibility, and leadership in real and lasting ways.
